A welcome return to Springfield
A Lake Braddock High School graduate, Dr. Maiurano spent time during high school and college learning from her childhood dentist, Dr. John P. DeMorro. Dentistry brought together things she enjoyed: science, working with her hands, and getting to know people.
She earned degrees in biology and psychology at Bishop's University, then her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. After practicing as an associate dentist in Fairfax, she had the opportunity to return to Springfield and take over Dr. DeMorro's practice. She was delighted to come back.
This was where she'd been cared for as a child and had begun learning the work herself. Carrying the practice forward meant a great deal to her. As she got to know familiar faces in her new role as their dentist, she wanted them to keep feeling at home.
Room for what's on your mind
Dr. Maiurano wants you to feel comfortable telling her what brought you in. That might be a tooth you're worried about, a past experience that makes you nervous, or a question you've never had a chance to ask. There's no need to know the dental words for it.
She examines carefully and takes time to explain what she finds. A treatment recommendation comes with a reason, a discussion of the alternatives, and a sense of how soon it matters. When a tooth can safely be watched, she'll explain that plan, too. She's happy to go over something again rather than have you leave with an unanswered question.
Her attention extends to the small details, from the shape of a filling to the way your teeth meet when you chew. She'll also help you understand how to look after your dental work so it can serve you well.
Getting to know each other
Seeing people again over the years is one of her favorite parts of family dentistry. There is time to learn what helps someone feel comfortable and what matters to them as their needs change. Even with someone she's known for years, she wants to hear what's different this time.
She and her husband have two children. Outside the office, she enjoys painting, drawing, and cooking. You might find her out for a run, volunteering at one of her kids' school events, or puttering around her garden. The place where she works is also a place where her family feels at home.
Professional involvement
Dr. Maiurano is a member of the American Dental Association and Virginia Dental Association, and has volunteered with Mission of Mercy projects providing dental care in underserved parts of Virginia. When your care would benefit from a specialist, she'll explain the referral and how it fits with the rest of your treatment.
