You can ask what a first visit is like, mention that you're a little nervous, or tell us about the tooth that's been on your mind. We'll help you find a place to start.
You may be ready for a routine checkup, or you may want to talk with someone before deciding where to go. Either is a good reason to call. We're happy to answer a few questions about the office and help you picture a visit here.
You don't need your old records in hand to make that first call. We'll let you know what would be useful to bring and how to arrange for it to reach us.
If you're looking for help understanding a treatment recommendation, you can arrange a no-charge second opinion. You're welcome to keep your own dentist.
Moving here or changing dentists?
Finding a dentist is one more thing to sort out after a move. It can also be hard to start over when a dentist you've trusted for years retires. Tell us what you liked about your old office and whether there's treatment in progress. We'll explain which records would help us pick up your care.
If you're settled here and simply looking for a different office, you're welcome too. Tell us what you'd like us to understand about your previous visits. Call for help transferring records so we can explain how to send them securely.
A little paperwork, at your own kitchen table
You can print the new patient packet and fill it out at home, where your medication list and other information may be easier to find. If you don't have a printer, let us know and we'll make another arrangement.
Download new patient forms (PDF)
If the PDF is difficult to read, print, or complete, call or email [email protected]. We can provide the information another way or help you complete it. Please do not email completed forms or medical details.
The packet covers your contact and insurance information, health and dental history, and what you'd like help with. It also includes our privacy acknowledgments and office policies.
What to bring
- Your completed forms, if you printed them at home.
- A current photo ID and dental insurance card, if applicable.
- A list of medications, allergies, and important health conditions.
- Recent dental records or images when another office has provided them to you.
- The questions you want to make sure we answer.
What happens at the first visit
Dr. Maiurano will ask about your health, listen to what brought you in, and examine your teeth and gums. Dental X-rays may be needed to see areas she can't assess by looking in your mouth. This is a good time to mention the little things, too: a rough edge, a change in your bite, or a question you've been saving for your checkup.
A cleaning is often part of a new-patient visit. Sometimes a painful tooth needs attention first, or the gums need care beyond a routine cleaning. We'll talk that through with you before deciding how to proceed.
Before you leave, Dr. Maiurano will go over what she found. You'll have time to ask what needs attention soon, what can wait, and what she'd recommend watching. If treatment is needed, we'll talk through what it involves before scheduling it.
Planning around your day
If you're working around school pickup, a shift, or a ride from someone else, let us know when we schedule. Ask how much time to allow for the appointment. It's easier to plan together when we know what your day involves.
Make the visit work better for you
Let us know before the visit if you need an interpreter, help with access or transferring, or an adjustment for a sensory concern. We'll discuss the arrangements with you. If you're nervous, tell us that too. Some people like to know every step; others prefer less explanation and a signal for a break. Read about planning a visit when you feel nervous.
The office is wheelchair accessible and latex-free. The restroom is ADA compliant and includes a baby changing station. There is free accessible parking directly in front of the entrance.
